Transfer Phone Data Using The Cellebrite Machine

How to use the Cellebrite UME 36 Pro to transfer contacts from your old phonebook to a replacement cell phone.

While most late model smartphones have a built in system for backing up your information that allows your information. What happens though if you have an older model phone without this capability or maybe your screen is not functional and you can't access your menu or other functions? Without special equipment you are out of luck.

Before iTunes, Gmail, Blackberry Desktop Manager, etc. we needed a solution for recovering or transferring phone book information and multimedia files from cell phones. The Cellebrite company created that solution. The UME device shown in this video can connect to most cell phones manufactured within the last ten years and perform this process for you.

This 36 Pro model shown in this video also has the ability to store this extracted data to a computer, USB flash drive or SD card. Once a backup has been performed the file can be used in the future to perform a restore process which uploads the data to your new handset.

It is important to know that in some cases the restore process may merge your backed up data with whatever is stored on the new phone but in some situations it will overwrite everything thus wiping out the existing address book. We recommend creating a backup file from both phones just in case a mistake is made during the final transfer.

Photos, videos, and phone books which have been saved to a memory card can be viewed simply by plugging the storage device into a computer. Multimedia can be opened as usual and phone books will open with your internet browser.

There are some limitations as to what can be transferred and varies from one phone model to another. Most phones allow the transfer of contacts. A slightly smaller number allows pictures and movies to be copied. SMS backup is a bit more rare as is ring tone transfer. Anything in the way of applications cannot be transferred from one phone to another.
